About Intent-DNS
Free authoritative DNS with 1,000 records per domain
Intent-DNS is anycast DNS for developers — apex ALIAS so your root domain can point at a hostname, a full REST API, and 1,000 records per domain, more than most real zones use. Free forever, no card required.
The apex of example.com is already the name in the zone’s SOA and NS records. A CNAME there would make the zone self-referential, so the RFC forbids it outright.
ALIAS flattens the target into an address answer, so the apex resolves like an A record while SOA and NS stay exactly where they belong.
What Intent-DNS does
Intent DNS provides authoritative anycast DNS for developers. It lets a domain’s apex point to a hostname using an ALIAS record, which resolves like an A record while allowing the zone’s SOA and NS records to remain in place. The service supports nine DNS record types, a REST API, and up to 1,000 records per domain on every plan. It addresses the restriction that prevents a CNAME record from being used at a zone apex.
A user creates a zone and publishes DNS records through the dashboard or its REST API; the page says every dashboard action has an API equivalent. To point a root domain at a hostname, the user adds an ALIAS record, while SOA and NS records remain in the zone. Users can also point the service at a domain to discover its existing records, review them, and import them. Domains delegate to the service’s dns1.int.yt and dns2.int.yt nameservers.
The page presents Intent DNS as authoritative DNS for developers. It is also described for people who already have an int.yt subdomain: they claim the name in the int.yt panel, then manage its records through the DNS account. Its stated distinctions include apex ALIAS support, an API on every plan, and the same 1,000-record limit on free and paid plans; paid tiers increase the number of domains.
Based on dns.int.yt, read on Nov 3, 2026.
