Launching a productivity tool here
Personal tools are the easiest category to build in and the hardest to charge for, so it fills with beautiful apps that never made a dollar. The ones that get traction replace a habit rather than adding one. Show the workflow you are taking away, not the features you are adding to the pile.
Whoever is browsing this category already runs three tools that overlap with yours. Telling them you are cleaner and faster does not move anyone, because the last four listings said that too. Say what you do that Notion, Todoist, or the notes app already on their phone cannot. If the honest answer is that yours is simply nicer to use, say that instead: taste is a real reason people switch, and admitting it reads better than inventing a differentiator.
Free tiers cut both ways here. They get you installs and they teach people your product is free. If you intend to charge, let users touch the paid feature in the first session rather than gating it behind a limit they only hit in month three, by which point the habit has formed around the free version.
What a strong productivity listing includes
- The specific tool or habit it replaces
- A screenshot of a filled-in workspace rather than an empty state
- Which platforms it runs on, including whether there is a mobile app
- What happens to your data if you stop paying
Questions founders ask about Productivity
Can I list a template or a system rather than an app?
If it has its own page, its own price, and someone can buy or download it on its own, it works as a listing. A template that only exists inside a blog post gives a visitor nowhere to land.
Is a free tool worth listing?
Often more worth it than a paid one. Free tools get tried, and a visitor who tries something is far more likely to upvote and share it. Plenty of the free tools here exist to feed a paid product elsewhere, which is a reasonable thing to be open about in the description.
