The short answer
Yes, if you have a live product and people ready to show up on launch day. As of October 2026, launching on Product Hunt is free and every launch goes live at 12:01 am Pacific time. The same product or root domain can launch once every six months unless the team approves a relaunch for a major update. The Visit website button is a direct link marked rel="noreferrer noopener ugc", so value it for the day of attention: it is not a dofollow backlink.

What Product Hunt is
Product Hunt is a daily leaderboard of new products. Most launches are posted, or "hunted", by their own makers, and the community upvotes and comments over a 24-hour day that runs on Pacific time. Launches compete on points, which its help center describes as upvotes combined with engagement such as comments, for Product of the Day, Week and Month.
Its launch guide dates it to 2013 and credits founder Ryan Hoover; the About page lists Rajiv Ayyangar as CEO. Anyone with a free personal account can post, and after launch day the launch stays up as a permanent product page with reviews and alternatives.
Not every launch reaches the homepage. The team decides which launches are featured, and the homepage shows featured launches by default; the rest sit in the All feed behind "See all of today's products". Its featuring guidelines, updated in March 2026, say its focus is digital products and that it only features products people can use now.
Is Product Hunt dofollow?
No. As of October 2026, the Visit website button on a Product Hunt product page links straight to your site with ?ref=producthunt added and carries rel="noreferrer noopener ugc". ugc is a nofollow-type value, so the link is not a dofollow backlink.
We opened RankControl (launched September 23, 2026, ranked #10 that day) and Ownfeed (launching October 7) in Chrome and read the raw server HTML. Both buttons are direct links with no redirect; the sidebar domain link carries the same rel, and links in the maker's description are marked rel="ugc". All 20 product pages we scanned from the October 7 homepage used the same rel on the button.
Launch-day pages can also be noindexed. On October 7, 11 of the 20 product pages from that day's "launching today" list served meta robots "noindex, nofollow" with no canonical, including the day's #1. All 12 pages we checked from the September 23 leaderboard were indexable with a self-canonical, so the tag looks temporary. Product Hunt does not document it.
App Store and Google Play buttons go through producthunt.com/r/ short links that answer with a 301, and Product Hunt's robots.txt blocks /r/ from crawling.

How much does it cost to launch on Product Hunt?
Nothing. As of October 2026, its launch guide says Product Hunt is "100% free to use". The paid products are ads, which Product Hunt keeps apart from the leaderboard and does not allow on your launch day.
Ad prices come from help center articles last updated in 2025; the self-serve ad form needs an account, so we could not read live rates. Promoted Products are not available for brand-new launches.

How to launch on Product Hunt
You post the launch yourself: Product Hunt says a third-party hunter gives no advantage.
- Use a personal account at least a week old Company and brand accounts cannot post, vote or comment, and a new account must be a week old before it can launch (help center, April 2026). Its guidelines ask for a first and last name, a clear photo of you and a username that is not a company name.
- Start the post from Submit Log in and click Submit, then New Product. The form starts with the product URL; shortened links and tracking links such as UTM tags are not accepted.
- Fill in the launch page The product name only, a tagline of up to 60 characters, a description of up to 260 characters (per its help center), up to three topics, a square thumbnail, at least two gallery images, your co-makers and a pricing tag. Videos must be YouTube links.
- Write the maker comment Its launch guide says 70% of products that won Product of the Day, Week or Month had a first comment by the maker. Say what the product does, who it is for and why you built it.
- Schedule it or save a draft Pick a date up to 30 days ahead; the launch goes live at 12:01 am Pacific that day. Create Draft has replaced the old Launch Now option, and a scheduled launch stays private until you make it public.
- Spend the day in the comments Reply to comments quickly and share the launch link with your users. Never ask outright for upvotes: its launch guide says that can get a launch disqualified.

Launching on Product Hunt? Add a second permanent page
Product Hunt gives you one day on the leaderboard, then a product page with a ugc link. SaaSCity, which we run, gives your product a launch week and a permanent page on a DR 66 domain; the link turns dofollow once our badge is on your homepage, or Quick Pass ($19.99) puts the listing live within 24 hours after a human review, with no badge needed. It will not replace launch-day traffic. Book it for the week of your Product Hunt launch so both pages are live while people search for you.
Product Hunt rules worth knowing
From its help center and launch guide, as of October 2026.
No upvote requests
Asking for upvotes, mass messaging, bots and incentives break its community guidelines, and its help center says they can drop a product in the ranks or take it off the homepage.
Six months between launches
The same product, the same company and the same root domain wait six months between posts. An earlier relaunch needs a request and a significant update: a new mobile app or a full redesign with new features counts, a new UI or new pricing does not.
Two hunts a day
One person can schedule up to 2 hunts per day.
What is not featured
Waitlisted products without immediate access, directories or lists, templates, boilerplates, podcasts, courses, reports, events, books, services, stores and deal sites. Its guidelines say featuring decisions are final in the vast majority of cases.
No paid hunters or traffic
Paying anyone to hunt or send traffic can get the product removed and the account permanently banned.
Is Product Hunt worth it?
Yes, for a live product with an audience you can bring on the day. It costs nothing but time. A featured launch spends a full day on the homepage leaderboard, and the page stays up afterwards as a product page with reviews. Relaunching after six months with a real update lets you use it more than once.
It is weak for SEO: the link is ugc and some launch-day pages are noindexed. Points can also fall during the day when Product Hunt filters votes it considers inauthentic. Featuring is a team decision, so a launch can do everything right and still land in the All feed instead of on the homepage. Waitlists, templates, directories and courses should not expect a feature at all.
Good fit
- Live products people can try on launch day
- Makers with a following or a mailing list to bring on the day
- Major updates you can relaunch every six months
- Collecting reviews on a permanent product page
Skip it if
- You want a dofollow backlink
- Your product is a waitlist, template, directory or course
- Nobody can spend launch day in the comments
- Your Product Hunt account is less than a week old
