The short answer
As of October 2026, BetaList has no free option: every submission is paid, and a startup it does not select gets a full refund automatically. Plan prices appear only at the end of the submission form, after you sign in. A featured startup gets a day on the homepage and a Visit Site button with no nofollow that reaches your site through a 301 redirect, which makes it worth it for a pre-launch or newly launched tech startup on its own domain.

What BetaList is
BetaList describes itself as the place for early adopters to discover upcoming and recently launched internet startups, and for founders to share theirs and get early feedback. It takes tech startups that are unreleased, in private beta or recently launched. A product that launched weeks ago or has had significant press is a weaker fit, by its own criteria.
You pay when you choose a plan, and the editorial team then reviews the startup and emails you the decision. An accepted startup is featured on the timeline for your plan: a day on the homepage, then down the list. Newsletter inclusion is guaranteed only on some plans, and a startup goes into the newsletter at least 24 hours after its feature.
Its advertising page claims 24,000+ startups featured, 500,000+ pageviews a month and 70,000+ newsletter subscribers, while the plan cards on the same page say 60k+ subscribers. These are BetaList's own figures. On its homepage we counted 13 to 16 startups featured per day from October 4 to 6, 2026.
Is BetaList dofollow?
Yes, with a redirect in between. As of October 2026, the Visit Site button on a featured listing has no rel attribute and points to betalist.com/startups/<slug>/visit, which answers with a 301 to your site with ref=betalist added. The screenshot links on the same page carry rel="noopener nofollow".
We checked SmartBI (featured October 7, 2026 and marked Boosted) and EventSend (featured October 6, not boosted) in Chrome and in the raw HTML. Each page has two Visit Site buttons with no rel and five screenshot links to the same /visit URL marked nofollow. The /visit URL returned a 301 to the product: SmartBI's with the UTM tags its maker set plus ref=betalist, EventSend's with ref=betalist alone.
Nothing blocks the redirect from crawlers. BetaList's robots.txt has no rules and the 301 sends no X-Robots-Tag; listing pages have no meta robots and a self-canonical. Its FAQ says Google passes link equity through 301 redirects and that some SEO tools show the BetaList URL instead of yours. We can confirm the redirect and the missing nofollow; how much value Google passes through it is not something a page check can show.
Boosted and regular listings use the same markup, and the FAQ says every plan includes a do-follow backlink if the startup is featured. Listings stay up: one featured in September 2019 still had the same button and the same 301 when we checked.

How much does BetaList cost?
Every submission is paid as of October 2026. Its FAQ says current plans and prices are shown at the end of the submission form, which needs an account, so we did not see them. Plans differ mainly in how fast you are featured and whether newsletter inclusion is guaranteed, and you can upgrade to a faster plan from your dashboard.
Boost prices are labeled introductory pricing. Refunds can take 5 to 10 business days to appear, and there are no refunds once a startup has been featured.

How to submit to BetaList
Paying does not skip the editorial review, so check the criteria before you pay.
- Check that your startup fits BetaList wants tech startups that are unreleased, in private beta or recently launched. Blogs, courses, books, newsletters, subscription e-commerce, consultancies and agencies are out, and so are old ideas without substantial improvements.
- Fix the landing page It has to be a distinct page on your own domain. Templates, default Bootstrap and explainer-video-only pages are not accepted, nor are pages hosted on LaunchRock, Unbounce or KickoffLabs. Free subdomains like vercel.app and direct links to an app store, Kickstarter or Facebook are out too.
- Give visitors a way in A sign-up form, a download button or a social login all count. "Follow us on X to get notified" does not.
- Create an account and fill in the form The submit page sends you to log in first. Later you can edit the icon, name, pitch, description, website URL and images from your dashboard.
- Pick a plan and pay Prices and the expected timeline show at the end of the form, and you are charged at checkout.
- Wait for the email Your dashboard shows the status. If BetaList passes, the refund is automatic and it gives no specific feedback; you can resubmit once the value proposition, design or idea is stronger.

Looking for the free route BetaList dropped?
SaaSCity, which we run, still has one: a free listing waits for one of 15 free Monday launch slots, and its link turns dofollow once our badge is on your homepage. Quick Pass ($19.99) skips the queue and the badge after a human review and goes live within 24 hours. We have no newsletter and no pre-launch focus, so for a beta that needs early adopters, BetaList is the better fit.
BetaList rules to know
From its FAQ and submission guidelines, as of October 2026.
Featured once, or twice
A startup is featured once, with one exception: one feature before launch and one at launch, at least a few weeks apart.
Your own domain only
No vercel.app, netlify.app or herokuapp.com subdomains, and no direct links to app stores.
Domain changes need a redirect
You can rebrand or pivot the same startup, but the old URL must redirect to the new one. Reusing a listing for a different startup is not allowed.
No feedback on rejections
BetaList says it receives thousands of submissions a month and cannot give feedback on individual ones.
Is BetaList worth it?
Worth it for a pre-launch or newly launched tech startup with a clean landing page on its own domain. The refund takes most of the risk out: you pay for a feature only if you get one, and a feature brings a permanent listing and a link with no nofollow.
The catch is how short the exposure is. A feature is one day on a homepage that showed 13 to 16 new startups a day when we checked, and the newsletter is guaranteed only on some plans. More time on the homepage costs $99 a week. The plan prices sit behind a sign-up, so you cannot compare them before making an account.
Skip it if your product has been live for months or has had press coverage. Services, newsletters, stores and products on free subdomains are ruled out by the criteria, so paying and waiting for the refund only costs you time. Our BetaList alternatives page lists the other options.
Good fit
- Pre-launch startups collecting early sign-ups
- New tech startups on their own domain
- Founders who want a followed link and a refund if rejected
Skip it if
- You want a free listing
- Your product launched months ago or had press
- You run an agency, a course, a newsletter or an online store
- Your site runs on vercel.app, netlify.app or a similar subdomain
