Quick answer

What is the LinkedIn banner size?

LinkedIn recommends 1584 × 396 px (4:1) for a personal profile banner, JPG or PNG under 8 MB. A Company Page cover is 1512 × 256 px, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB. Your profile photo sits over the lower left of a personal banner, so put text on the right. A 3000 × 2000 photo gives a 3000 × 750 crop, scaled to 1584 × 396.

How to make a LinkedIn banner

  1. Add your image

A photo, a product screenshot or a designed banner, JPEG, PNG or WebP. Wider than 1584 px gives the sharpest result.

  2. Place the focal point

Drag the marker onto what must stay visible. The 4:1 and 6:1 crops both centre on it.

  3. Check desktop and mobile

Switch the safe zones to see where the profile photo covers the banner on each.

  4. Download and upload

Save as JPEG at high quality, then on LinkedIn click the camera icon on your cover and upload the file.

How the banner is cropped

A 1584 × 396 banner is four times as wide as it is tall, so most photos lose height. The resizer keeps the full width of a typical photo and takes a 4:1 strip centred on your focal point. A Company Page cover is narrower still, about 5.9:1.

LinkedIn says the cover sits behind your profile photo and that its display changes with the browser window and screen. It publishes no measurements for the photo, so the photo zones here are our estimate of the layout, marked as such.

Formula
crop height = image width × 396 ÷ 1584 (when the image is less than 4:1) crop top = focal y − crop height ÷ 2, kept inside the image scale = 1584 ÷ crop width

Worked example

  1. A 3,000 × 2,000 photo for a 1584 × 396 banner.
  2. Crop height: 3,000 × 396 ÷ 1,584 = 750 px, so the crop is 3,000 × 750.
  3. Focal point 40% down: top edge at 800 − 375 = 425 px.
  4. Scale: 1,584 ÷ 3,000 = 0.528.
  5. For the 1512 × 256 Company cover: 3,000 × 256 ÷ 1,512 = 508 px tall, scaled by 0.504.

Where your profile photo covers the banner

On desktop the round profile photo overlaps the lower left of the banner. In the mobile app the banner shows smaller while the photo stays large, so it covers a bigger share of the same corner. Keep your name, product and any text in the right two thirds, clear of the bottom edge.

Company Page cover: 1512 × 256

LinkedIn’s current help page gives 1512 × 256 as both the minimum and recommended cover size, up to 3 MB. It warns that the cover may be trimmed horizontally or vertically and asks you to keep key details in the centre, away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner. The Page logo is 400 × 400; a transparent logo is shown on white.

What to put on a founder’s banner

One clear line on what you build, the product’s name, and a URL or launch date is enough. Use large type with strong contrast, because phones show the banner small. A clean product screenshot on the right reads better than a collage. LinkedIn notes that photos look clearer than images with logos.

LinkedIn banner questions

What size is a LinkedIn banner?
1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. LinkedIn now calls it the cover image; it used to be the background photo.
What is the LinkedIn company banner size?
1512 × 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB, according to LinkedIn’s help page. Some guides still list 1128 × 191, an older size.
Why is my LinkedIn banner blurry?
Usually the upload was small or heavily compressed. Export exactly 1584 × 396 from a larger image, as a high-quality JPEG. LinkedIn suggests a larger file when a cover looks pixelated.
Why does my banner look different on my phone?
LinkedIn says the display changes with the window size and screen. In the app the photo covers more of the lower left, so text there disappears. Preview the mobile zone before uploading.
Can a LinkedIn banner be a GIF?
No. LinkedIn accepts JPG or PNG for the cover, and its upload help says GIFs are not supported.
What size is a LinkedIn profile photo?
Anything from 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320 pixels, PNG or JPG up to 8 MB. It is shown as a circle, so keep your face centred.
What size is a LinkedIn post image with a link?
For a Page post with a link, LinkedIn asks for 1.91:1, 1200 × 627 pixels, wider than 200 px. Narrower images show as a small thumbnail.
Is my image uploaded to SaaSCity?
No. The crop and the download happen in your browser, and the image never leaves your device.
