Sizes checked on each platform’s help page on October 27, 2026.

Quick answer

What size should social media images be in 2026?

Use each platform’s own size: YouTube thumbnail 3840 × 2160 px (16:9, at least 640 px wide), X header 1500 × 500, LinkedIn profile banner 1584 × 396, Open Graph link image 1200 × 630, Product Hunt gallery 1270 × 760. When the shape differs from your image, crop around the subject: a 2400 × 1600 photo becomes a 2400 × 800 strip for the 3:1 X header.

How to use the image resizer

  1. Add your image

Drop a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB, or try the sample first. The file stays on your device.

  2. Pick the focal point

Click or drag the marker onto the subject. Every crop is centred on it and kept inside the image.

  3. Check the safe zones

Overlays show where a profile photo, a video length badge or a crop will cover the image. Switch between desktop and mobile where they differ.

  4. Download

Save one size, or every size on screen as a ZIP. Filter by platform first to get only what you need.

How the resizer crops

For each size the resizer takes the largest area of your image with the target’s aspect ratio, centres it on your focal point, and slides it back inside the image when the point is near an edge. That area is then scaled to the exact pixel size the platform asks for.

Large reductions are done in halves before the final step, which keeps fine detail and text sharp. If your image is smaller than a size, the export is enlarged and the card says by how much, because an enlarged image can look soft.

App Store Connect and Google Play reject screenshots with an alpha channel, so those exports are always flattened onto white, whatever the format.

Formula
crop width = min(image width, image height × W ÷ H) crop height = crop width × H ÷ W crop left = focal x − crop width ÷ 2, kept between 0 and image width − crop width scale = W ÷ crop width

Worked example

  1. A 4,000 × 3,000 photo, cropped for the 1500 × 500 X header (3:1).
  2. Crop width: min(4,000, 3,000 × 3) = 4,000 px. Crop height: 4,000 ÷ 3 = 1,333 px.
  3. Focal point halfway down: top edge at 1,500 − 667 = 833 px.
  4. Scale: 1,500 ÷ 4,000 = 0.375, a clean reduction.
  5. Same photo as a 1080 × 1920 Story: crop 3,000 × 9 ÷ 16 = 1,688 × 3,000 px, scaled by 0.64.

Every size was read on the platform’s own help page on October 27, 2026. Safe zones marked “estimate” in the resizer are ours, because the platform publishes no measurement.

YouTube thumbnail size

YouTube’s help page asks for a thumbnail “as large as possible”: 3840 × 2160 px for videos, 16:9, at least 640 px wide, as JPG or PNG. Uploads from a computer can be up to 50 MB; the mobile app caps video thumbnails at 2 MB. A 1280 × 720 file has the same 16:9 shape and clears the minimum, but carries a quarter of the pixels. The video length badge covers the lower-right corner, so keep text out of it.

Twitter (X) image size

X shows a single image in full when its ratio is between 2:1 and 3:4, so neither 16:9 nor 4:5 is cropped in the timeline. X’s ad specs list 1920 × 1080 for 16:9 and 1440 × 1800 for 4:5. Photos can be up to 5 MB as GIF, JPEG or PNG. The header is 1500 × 500 and the profile photo 400 × 400.

OG image size

Meta recommends Open Graph images of at least 1200 × 630 px, close to 1.91:1, up to 8 MB. Below 600 × 315 the link preview shrinks to a small thumbnail. Declare og:image:width and og:image:height so the preview renders on the first share, and give a changed image a new URL: Meta caches images by URL. LinkedIn asks for 1200 × 627 on Page posts with a link, the same shape.

App Store and Google Play screenshot sizes

App Store Connect lists one iPhone size as required: the medium Dynamic Island display, 1206 × 2622 (or 1179 × 2556). The large display takes 1320 × 2868, the 13-inch iPad 2064 × 2752 and the Mac 2880 × 1800. Upload 1 to 10 per size, JPEG or PNG, with no transparency. Google Play wants 9:16 phone screenshots of at least 1080 × 1920 for its promotions, sides between 320 and 3840 px, no alpha.

Image size questions

What is the YouTube thumbnail size?
YouTube recommends 3840 × 2160 px, 16:9, at least 640 px wide, as JPG or PNG. Desktop uploads can be up to 50 MB; the mobile app limits video thumbnails to 2 MB.
What size is a Twitter header?
1500 × 500 px, a 3:1 ratio, as JPG, PNG or a still GIF. X says up to 60 px at the top and bottom may be cropped, and the profile photo covers the lower left.
What is the LinkedIn banner size?
1584 × 396 px for a personal profile, JPG or PNG under 8 MB. A Company Page cover is 1512 × 256 px, PNG or JPEG up to 3 MB.
What size should an OG image be?
1200 × 630 px, close to 1.91:1 and under 8 MB, per Meta’s sharing docs. The minimum for a large preview is 600 × 315; the absolute minimum is 200 × 200.
What size are App Store screenshots?
For iPhone, Apple requires the medium display size, 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556; the large display takes 1320 × 2868. iPad 13-inch is 2064 × 2752. No transparency, up to 10 per size.
What is the Instagram post size?
1080 px wide, with a ratio between 1.91:1 and 3:4: 1080 × 1080 square, up to 1080 × 1440 portrait. Instagram crops other ratios. Stories are 1080 × 1920.
What are the Product Hunt image sizes?
A 240 × 240 thumbnail (a GIF under 3 MB works and animates on hover) and gallery images of 1270 × 760. The gallery needs at least two images.
Why does my resized image look blurry?
Your image was smaller than the target, so it was enlarged. The resizer flags every upscaled size. Start from a larger original, or crop less by moving the focal point.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping, resizing and the ZIP all happen in your browser. The image never leaves your device.
